STOGUMBER BAPTIST BIRTHS

While searching through a folder cataloguing Non-Conformist records held by the Somerset Record Office recently, I discovered that there was some microfilm of Stogumber Baptist births. As I have been transcribing the Baptismal Register of the Parish Church, I thought it would be a good idea to also transcribe these Baptist records to help complete the local area.

As the Baptist denomination prefer adult baptism, the records are actually records of births to members of their church. One very useful item found in these records and not in the C. of E. Baptismal Records is that the mother's father is recorded and therefore her maiden name.

I have made no attempt to sort these items into chronological order; they are recorded in the order in which they appear in the record. While they are mostly in logical date order, there are numerous instances of two or more children being recorded at one time, usually at the birth date of the 'newest'! There is also a very obvious instance at the end of the record where early items have been copied in possibly from a 'discovered' file!
